Spectra and Transport in Almost Periodic Dimers

We study spectral properties of discrete Schrödinger operators with potentials obtained via dimerization of a class of aperiodic sequences. It is shown that both the nature of the autocorrelation measure of a regular sequence and the presence of generic (full probability) singular continuous spectrum in the hull of primitive and palindromic (four block substitution) potentials are robust under dimerization. Generic results also hold for circle potentials. We illustrate these results with numerical studies of the quantum mean square displacement as a function of time. The numerical techniques provide a very fast algorithm for the time evolution of wave packets.     

Efficient Collocation Schemes for Singular Boundary Value Problems

We discuss an error estimation procedure for the global error of collocation schemes applied to solve singular boundary value problems with a singularity of the first kind. This a posteriori estimate of the global error was proposed by Stetter in 1978 and is based on the idea of Defect Correction, originally due to Zadunaisky. Here, we present a new, carefully designed modification of this error estimate which not only results in less computational work but also appears to perform satisfactorily for singular problems. We give a full analytical justification for the asymptotical correctness of the error estimate when it is applied to a general nonlinear regular problem. For the singular case, we are presently only able to provide computational evidence for the full convergence order, the related analysis is still work in progress. This global estimate is the basis for a grid selection routine in which the grid is modified with the aim to equidistribute the global error. This procedure yields meshes suitable for an efficient numerical solution. Most importantly, we observe that the grid is refined in a way reflecting only the behavior of the solution and remains unaffected by the unsmooth direction field close to the singular point.

关于一类二次哈密尔顿系统在二次扰动下的极限环个数问题

本文研究了一类具有两个鞍点和一个中心的通用二次哈密尔顿向量场在二次扰动下的三参数开折，证明极限环的最小上界为２。     

Equivalence of variational inequality problems to unconstrained minimization

In this paper we propose a class of merit functions for variational inequality problems (VI). Through these merit functions, the variational inequality problem is cast as unconstrained minimization problem. We estimate the growth rate of these merit functions and give conditions under which the stationary points of these functions are the solutions of VI. Rank 2 Ample Vector Bundles on Some Smooth Rational Surfaces

Several classification results for ample vector bundles of rank 2 on Hirzebruch surfaces, and on Del Pezzo surfaces, are obtained. In particular, we classify rank 2 ample vector bundles with _c2 less than seven on Hirzebruch surfaces, and with _c2 less than four on Del Pezzo surfaces.     

Congruence criteria for finite subsets of complex projective and complex hyperbolic spaces

We investigate congruence classes and direct congruence classes of m-tuples in the complex projective space ℂP ⁿ . For direct congruence one allows only isometries which are induced by linear (instead of semilinear) mappings. We establish a canonical bijection between the set of direct congruence classes of m-tuples of points in ℂP ⁿ and the set of equivalence classes of positive semidefinite Hermitean m×m-matrices of rank at most n+1 with 1's on the diagonal. As a corollary we get that the direct congruence class of an m-tuple is uniquely determined by the direct congruence classes of all of its triangles, provided that no pair of points of the m-tuple has distance π/2. Examples show that the situation changes drastically if one replaces direct congruence classes by congruence classes or if distances π/2 are allowed. Finally we do the same kind of investigation also for the complex hyperbolic space ℂH ⁿ . Most of the results are completely analogous, however, there are also some interesting differences. A dual graph-norm refinement indicator for finite volume approximations of the Euler equations

Summary. We generalise and apply a refinement indicator of the type originally designed by Mackenzie, Süli and Warnecke in [15] and [16] for linear Friedrichs systems to the Euler equations of inviscid, compressible fluid flow. The Euler equations are symmetrized by means of entropy variables and locally linearized about a constant state to obtain a symmetric hyperbolic system to which an a posteriori error analysis of the type introduced in [15] can be applied. We discuss the details of the implementation of the refinement indicator into the DLR--Code which is based on a finite volume method of box type on an unstructured grid and present numerical results.
